Meet the characters
Samantha, Russel & Pebble
One girl who keeps people out, one boy who lets everyone in, and one turtle who just keeps going.
The girl in the yellow hoodie
Samantha
Life had been tough on Samantha, so Samantha got tough right back. She keeps her hood up, her arms crossed and her scowl ready, just in case.
- Notices everything: a scrape in the mud, one teeny toe print
- Draws amazing dragons (then crumples them up)
- Red sneakers, one yellow lace, one purple lace, always ready to run
“Hang on, buddy!”
The new kid on Maple Street
Russel
Russel just moved in, and he’s already decided Samantha is a superhero. He never runs out of enthusiasm, ideas or songs.
- Keeps an “explorer’s log” in a very deep, important voice
- Always has an IDEA (usually involving cardboard and markers)
- Wrote the silliest song ever. Everyone hums it anyway.
“Big things start small.”
The turtle with a chip in his shell
Pebble
A small painted turtle with a very serious face. He’s slow, the road is wide, and he doesn’t hide in his shell. He just keeps going.
- Lives at a secret pond full of dragonflies and frogs
- Favorite spot: a warm, sunny rock
- Leaves the tiniest tracks you’ve ever seen
Plod. Plod. Plod.
